Protect Wildlife Poster

Title: Protect Wildlife Poster

Year: 2016

Overview: This poster was a part of a series of posters I had made for a project, in which I was required to bring up an issue, such as the need to protect wildlife, and essentially get the target audiences to do something about it, such as in this case, go to the World Wildlife Foundation’s website to learn more.

Audience: In this case, the audiences of this poster included people who are interested in wildlife, but mainly people who are ignorant of the issue, using numbers and red type to get their attention.

Goals: To get the target audiences to participate in protecting wildlife, even if it means just actually taking the time to look at the issue, such as going on the website of the organization that deals with this issue on a daily basis.

Research: For this piece, it was necessary to look up the issue itself. And it was during my research that I got an interesting idea from the statistic I put on my poster, that being how many species go extinct every year.

Digital: I then melded this idea with what one normally thinks when it comes to extinct species, the dodo bird. And so, I then created the sketch I wanted in the piece and then proceeded to move it into Adobe Photoshop so that it could be rendered digitally. And after doing a bit of experimenting of colors, I found making the bird silver with a purple background seemed to work best with the red I had in mind for parts of the type. I also made it as a silhouette so that the focus would be on the content rather than just the illustration.

With the bird ready, I then brought the illustration into Adobe InDesign and added both the rectangular boxes and the type, using white for the majority to contrast from the background, and red for words I wanted emphasized since it would contrast from both the background and other sections of the type.
